Learning and transfer of perceptual-motor skill: Relationship with gaze and behavioral exploration

Visual and haptic exploration were shown to be central modes of in the development locomotion. However, it is unclear how learning affects these locomotor task such as climbing. The first aim this study was investigate modifications learners’ exploratory activity during acquisition a perceptual-motor skill. second determine what extent acquired skill transferred environments presenting novel properties. Seven participants attended 10 sessions on wall effects practice assessed pretest, posttest, retention tests, each composed four climbing routes: route climbed three transfer routes. routes designed by manipulating either distance between handholds, orientation handholds or shape. results showed that number hand movements fixations decreased with route. A visual entropy measure suggested gaze path became more goal-directed but some search necessary test. also following practice, whereas higher than route, suggesting that, learning, relied from adapt new properties Analyses individual performances behaviors differences skilled activity.
